Setting Up Categories

Categories organize your faire by subject area — Life Sciences, Physics, Engineering, and so on. Set them up before you start assigning judges.

  • You need Admin or Owner role
  • Required permission: judges:manage

Go to StructureCategories in the sidebar. You’ll see any existing categories listed here.

Click Add Category. A form appears with these fields:

  • Name (required) — the display name judges and organizers see
  • Code — a short reference code for exports and quick identification
  • Icon — pick from 20+ icons to visually distinguish categories
  • Color — choose a color for badges and labels
  • Description — optional context about what this category covers

An icon and color auto-generate when you type the name. You can keep the defaults or click either one to pick your own.

Click Save. The category appears in your list immediately.

Add as many categories as your faire needs. You can always come back and edit or add more later.

  • Categories are what you assign judges to. Create your categories first, then organize judges into groups.
  • You can edit a category’s name, icon, color, or description at any time without affecting existing judge assignments.
  • The code field is optional but useful in exports and printed materials where space is tight.
  • Deleting a category unassigns any judges in it. They’ll show up as unassigned and need to be placed again.
